11 steps to opening your swimming pool:
- Pump water from top of pool cover and clean cover.
- Water can be pumped using a submersible pump or a self-priming pump. These can be rented at most rental establishments or at Waterbee Pools & Hot Tubs (if you do not already have access to a pump)
- The cover should be cleaned while still on the pool as the water is being pumped from it. It is easier to clean the cover while still wet rather than allow dirt and debris to become dried to the surface. It also does not cause abrasion to the cover as stretching across a driveway would. The cover can be cleaned using a pool brush and extendable pole by brushing water and debris toward the pump and by washing it down with a garden hose. A vinyl liner and cover cleaning solution can be used to remove stains.
- Leaves and other debris must be taken from the cover using a "leaf basket" or deep style leaf skimmer (available at Waterbee Pools and Hot Tubs if you don't already have one).
- If the pool cover has water bags securing it, they should also be cleaned while the water is still in them.
- Remove the pool cover from the pool.
- If you have cleaned the pool cover properly it will not matter if it happens to fall into the pool as there will be no dirt left on the cover to enter into the pool water. Merely slide the cover across the pool until it is off.
- Store vinyl covers in a water/algaecide mixture to prevent shrinkage of the material.
- Woven covers should be left out to dry and then folded and stored dry.
- Replace plugs and caps into the pump, filter and heater and reconnect automatic chemical feeders and similar equipment. Also remove plugs from the pool's skimmer and return fittings (jets) and replace with the skimmer basket and directional fittings in the returns.
- Clean any water ring from the top of the pool liner using vinyl liner cleaner, a cloth, sponge or soft brush.
- Reinstall any ladders, railings, diving boards, etc.
- Fill the pool with water to the normal operating level.
- Prime and start your pool pump ensuring you have all valves in proper position to draw water from the pool skimmer and main drain.
- Thoroughly backwash or clean your pool filter then return it to normal filtering operation.
- After circulating the pool water for 24 hours, bring a sample of the pool's water to Waterbee Pools & Hot Tubs so that it can be tested and the proper chemicals prescribed to return your pool water to perfect balance and clarity.
- Add required treatment and follow the expert's directions to correct any water irregularity.
- Maintain your pool regularly as instructed by Waterbee Pools and Hot Tubs and .
